Black Stork (Ciconia Nigra)
Similar in size to the White Stork, but easily distinguished by its black upperparts and black neck whereas White Stork is white with black on the wings. In contrast to herons, which in flight hold the neck hunched into the body, storks fly with neck extended and feet projecting behind. Forms flocks on migration, sometime circling in warm-air currents, often with birds of prey. The main migration route between its Eurasian breeding grounds and its African wintering area is through the Levant and largely bypasses Egypt, where only small numbers are seen. |
